Unless you have a significant amount of assets, I would recommend that initially you put everything in your name and at a later date transition to an LLC as you grow your real estate portfolio. 

How did you transition from few properties to syndication?

After acquiring a couple of turnkey SFR’s I have come to the realization that I need to transition to the BRRRR model in order to meet my goals.

But personally I transitioned from turnkeys to syndications as I learned myself.

If you work in the city you just want to make sure to be aware of the closest transit line, which will be a bus or light rail.Journal Square- This has been an up and coming area for awhile, but from my limited experience/perspective I still don't really see it.

I would focus on transit-oriented properties within walking distance of an elevated train station (The "El").

Are there any well known CRE business developers who have had successful transition from motel to xyz. 

As Dave and some others have said, STR may be the way to go, and we are currently transitioning some of our LTR into STR.
