I bought a condo on a ski mountain last year for 304k, owe 273k on it.  

We own a large 5BD/3 1/2BA home near (within 5-20 min drive) 3 ski resorts in northern Utah.

Go get a pre-approval letter from the bank or a private / hard money lender, then get out there and look at properties.. definitely have your wife look at some of those if you're at work etc... my wife is huge help finding place... then, make some offers!  

It typically does have a higher APR and the PMI is for the life of the loan, so you will want to refi out of it eventually.

Anyone out there have any experience with condos in Colorado ski towns such as Avon, beaver creek, or winter park?

He then tells me that he has a right to a pre-inspection under California law.

I am guessing that approved you got is a pre-approval not a loan approval with closing in just a few days.
