You don't want to get a call 3 months into a project where you have lent money and hear the operator say that they ran out of money and need more money from you to finish the project or you will lose your investment.

Definitely do a search here for some recent stories on capital calls and risks with syndications...even on some that have been operating many years...

Sounds like strategy call would make most sense to see what your goals are with REI and being an agent to determine if the organization I represent aligns with the direction you are looking to go. 

I am on the Neighborhood Building Owner's Alliance weekly calls, and we had this ADU issue come up.

But the thing you'll have to do is call insurance companies and find out what their requirements are for pools, and treat that as the minimum you'll do.
