Call around and talk with other investors in your area and see who they suggest, if you talk with agents to interview for the position get some current owners to check what they are telling you before you make the move. 

Once I disclosed this information in my "interview" for Mastery, I felt completely shunned and even had my interviewer turn his back to me when I was approaching to ask for advice.

If you interview a manager who is not a NARPM member I really have to question are they a real property manager.

I would advise that you interview a few offices that you know or are in the area you are interested in.
