Why would you pay $70k for 300-500 sq ft, when a manufacturer will gladly finance a $10k cabin kit with 450 sq ft + loft, full kitchen and bath and up to 2 bedrooms?

How is the permitting done/can it be a DIY project, etc. 2.

I haven't had the guts or opportunity to invest in any real estate with the exception of the house I live in (DIY bedroom addition and various finishing/remodeling has made this a good equity investment though).

Things just aren't done like they use to be prior to our new regulations, so you'll be better off seeing an attorney before trying the DIY stuff of yesteryear. :)

the minimum for today's codes are 950sq ft. that's a small place or a small 2bdrm with kit/bath.
