You are the completion...The competition is bidding with logic and reason so they will stop bidding after a few thousand above the lien or if they think they can collect a years worth of rent before the bank foreclose they spectate rent rate x 12 - expense = profit .You on the other hand is bidding based on the emotions and personal attachment with the advantage of being able to hire a foreclosure defense attorney to stop the bank.

The only advantage I can imagine for adding someone to a lease is that you have another responsible party from which to attempt to collect rent should it become necessary, but you also confer your obligations as a landlord to that person.

It was only a word of caution to the op to keep in mind that the statement "I read it in a forum on line" never held in court as a defense...When I ask questions about how to flip a house, market to owners, drive for dollars etc.

I recently obtained a favorable terms sheet from them for a client and after having a conference all with their rep, could not answer the questions, the term sheet figures did not add up, had many grammar erros, and the rep hang up the phone and never call back or contacted me again.

He used to make some of the more disgusting sounds while eating...and of course he ate at his desk every single damn day.Then there was the day when all of the "important" people had a golf outing, so we decided to throw an impromptu all-day potluck/picnic for ourselves in the conference room.I sometimes look back on that job and wonder why I hated it so much.
