Unfortunately, it's a very costly and inefficient method, and in this area, at least, it's a romantic idea.

@Bill Baldwin  do you know any good local CPA/Attorney who can discuss (in english and charge by hour) rules and ways to optimize around gifts/inheritance taxes for Japanese citizens?

Another option would be for each party to gift each other somehow (we've known each other for years and have full trust) - a quick deed and a cash gift. 

Engage them with a contest like a chance to win movie tickets, or a gift card to a local eatery. 

Are they teh best option NO, if you have or can save money or get a gift from family they are not the best option.
