If it's BS, "the neighbors dog is barking", "the neighbor parked in my spot" etc etc i just don't respond..they eventually get the hint. 

So I did have any kind of a hint of a track record when it came to backing out of deals because of something obvious like exterior repaint, I'd be dead in the water.  

That will subtly let them know that you will be there again if they don't settle down. 

If you get this part of the plan down and have the process from start to finish mapped out, then I think it can be done.I read a little hint of lifestyle change in your post.
