These layoffs were different because it was not just that the individuals job was lost, as a result of technological innovation, in many cases it was that the job no longer existed.

Time span for Police and Fire Fighters responses take anywhere between one hour to mostly two hours, I'm told, for them to arrive, because they have had to lay off so many of their members, and the crime is rampant and the fires is an everyday thing, so it's hard for them to keep up.
