Anyway, my insurance company sent out a water remediation company to survey the water damage then do the demo - they ripped out pretty much the entire portion of drywall behind where the fridge usually sits as well as the ceiling area and cabinets that were above the fridge.

First is to have realistic expectations-find out what is standard in your area for timelines and pricing (each season is different for different contractors) Interior contractors (flooring, drywall, paint, cabinets, etc are quite busy from June-Aug and October-January in our area as weather forces projects to move inside and after the spring build rush).

We were able to keep the kitchen cabinets and counters (we sprayed them with an epoxy finish that looks like stone counters which cut down on the price and looked really good) along with the laminate floors in the kitchen.

I plan to completely overhaul the kitchen with new cabinets and appliances because at this point it is livable but not rentable (if that makes sense).My question is: I want to refinance in order to pay for the remodel but should I max out credit cards to pay for the initial costs and then refinance?
