As others above have said, ask around and look around...Walk through other houses being sold in your area to get a feel for the types of cabinets (and colors) and the types of countertops (and colors) they are using.Luckily, if you stick with the most common stuff for the cabinets (natural wood finishes or darker cherry finishes) and the countertops (anything that looks like granite), you'll probably be alright.

I had a painter who did many upscale homes tell me that a room needs to be at least 20% as wide as it is long and have about 300 sq. ft, that's about a 15X20 room or larger and it also depends on how much natural light you have and what shade/color you're doing.

I believe Limbaugh was the one who said a clean-up was unnecessary as this was completely natural and the ocean will take care of itself.
