My floor guy did (no materials, so it was fronting money for the work to get on the schedule, however the money was given when he moved his equipment on site), my "contractor" who I hired for doors, windows and siding I paid the material costs plus a bit extra up front.

Three other people did not hang up and explained the following reasoning for their declined request:- one said “no big company will touch residential until later this year”- one said “it’ll cost 800$ due to the equipment needed for such a small job” I then stated that I would be interested in a bigger cement job and they still declined- one said that Lincoln park requirements are very picky - one said that they will wait till there’s multiple jobs in the area, but when I said “okay then I’ll get on the list” they said it won’t be until later this year. - one told me to go with the “small guys” but didn’t give me any leads So now I’m pretty much thinking I’m not going to meet my May 1st deadline unless I tell them I plan on opening a cement skatepark!
