i figured a good way to do it is to have a partner on the deal, who will take care of getting the hard money, while i use the 50k for closing and repairs and then split it 50/50, is that a reasonable thing to do or would one of us be getting cheated ?

I've looked at these areas as well and both of us being fresh RE investors here's my take - for the first couple flips/rentals I plan to do I want them to be easy "base hits" and I'm not looking to get a triple play or home run deals until I get my feet wet at least.
