There is never any good reason to hide your intentions.

But those melange (I'm sure there's a better term) patterns hide a lot more than the white counters.  

If you hide the fact that you're planning to rent out the property soon, then you could still get the rate for a primary residence.

Best to stick to patterns/colors that will hide scuffs and stains.

To me, it feels like the seller has something to hide but I have very little (basically none) experience in real estate so I'm relying on intuition.

@Richard LadenbergThat sounds to convoluted and, if unravelled, might appear to a lender as you are trying to hided something or game the system.We have a student rooming house where we rent furnished rooms to predominately international students.  

It's waterproof, repairable with a pen they sell, and the fake-hand-scraped look hides a lot of tiny nicks that inevitably develop.

Hide them so they don't get stolen.

You can “hide” photos though.
