Yes it is a time to be grateful and compassionate as the the others have said in this thread, but I see no harm in your also also feeling and expressing the outrage of having your rights taken away from you (even temporarily) after all the hard work you put into building what you have.

make it a part of your business policy so you can be consistent and not accused of unfair housing practices. it can be unpleasant with an unresponsive or difficult tenant but if the tenant is damaging your property or not abiding by the terms of the lease, ultimately they are harming you.

I do not know the legality behind not being able to change locks if the property has not been occupied, but do not see the harm in trying to secure your property in the meantime.
