Shrubs and flowers planted, etc.

There is a ton of growth potential around here w/ Boeing, SPAWAR, and soon the Volvo plant and I want to take advantage of this.  

Sounds like you want to grow that planted tree you have there in the form of $100k.

Does have trees, plants, , shrubs in the backyard reduce value to the property due to higher maintenance and less usable space compared to same size backyard with just a lawn in it?

You save money because you don't have to buy them but you have to do the work that the farmer does like plant, prune, fertilize, de-weed, water and harvest (in exchange for the saving).It is up to each individual if they decide that the work they will put in equals or overweight the money they will save.

For example, updating a light fixture or putting in a ceiling fan can be fairly inexpensive and increase the value of the property at the same time.A simple gesture would be some outdoor plants to provide curb appeal.

Are you guys nervous about the Carrier plant closing in Indy?  

If I never plant the tree because it will take too long to grow, I'll never have shade.
