I have lived in a similar "American Nightmare" although my wife and I do not bring in the same income nor do we have as outstanding debt, however, being on the downhill slope means we just need to dig in and start progressing upward.

They sell most (all) of their loans to Freddie/Fannie, who ultimately determines the 1-year rule you noted above.Remember, if you BRRRR you keep all that equity and start getting cash flow (unless the market goes downhill).

I would think, if there was a break in the line, the water would run along the line downhill to the meter, which is dry.
