There are certain types of trim that I have to replace (i.e. 70's dark brown).

If you want a good book and tape course and want to shell out a few bucks then I would recommend Lou Brown's Trust Course.

You'll end up with badly painted crap brown balls or something equally tacky.

I don't know what lawns are like there, but it looks like you've got a decent lawn, it's just got brown spots.
