John Fulton Own or Rent Paradox: Your home is not an investment

If being forced to save your own money is a investment I believe I have been reading the wrong books. If on the other hand if you rented and took all the money you save that would have paid down your mortgage, repaired your roof and furnace, paid taxes, fueled your lawnmower and used it to purchased a rental property in the end you would be financially farther ahead than had you spent it on a personal money pit, I mean home. The other big kicker is that most will possibly never profit financially from their home, equity existing only on paper, if they die before they sell or sell and spend it all on another home.

Keep in mind you dont get the 7500 till taxes are filed. if you have good credit make sure to visit a local credit union because i have had car notes as low as 1.9% with a payment in the 450 a month range for this cost on a car. i took how much i was spending on gas which averaged around 200 per month and that left me 250 a month i was realistically paying for the car. with the 7500 coming in from taxes it is like getting paid back for almost a year and a half of the rest of the payment(the 250 a month). with the tax credit and adding in the gas i was using on a very fuel efficient car its almost like the car is free for almost the first couple years.
