Bryan,At the risk of participating in a topic more sophisticated than my current station; it seems to me that if you have the money to invest at any given moment and enough to do it in regular and small time intervals, you should find something to invest in, even if it's not an awesome deal, as long as it's a good deal.

Perhaps the contribution is every payday and pay is based on a two-week interval, hence 26 pay periods. 401ks are taken out of paychecks as pretax deductions, so no taxes are involved until distributions are taken (presumably in retirement after 59-1/2).

For some of my homes, the rent goes up on a pretty regular basis and at big intervals because certain homes attract students, who stay for fixed periods and then leave - there's lots of turnover, so few are around long enough to see rent increases, and there's lots of demand.
