I could see where on a $100k or so property  $2-3k to replace for flooring might be hard to justify, so if you are bound and determined to keep the carpet try buying 2 big bags of baking soda (warehouse stores --maybe $7 for a 10lb bag), and sprinkle generously over ALL the carpet.

The vast majority of active BP members are new investors looking to learn, followed by a good portion of us old pro's who never kicked the BP habit, and then a lovely little sprinkling of both investors who have a genuine axe to grind and are trying to help the community avoid their same mistakes, and people who just love to be confrontational - BP is still the internet, after all.
