That's unusual and it would be very difficult to find a passive investment like that.Also direct control means I know exactly what's going on.

People in a particular business saying that their product or service is great, they’ve done it hundreds of times and it’s been great, is not unusual, whether true or not.  

The houses in this neighborhood originally had the w/d in the kitchen, so it's not all that unusual of a set up. 

It's also possible that they were in violation of the license law in NC but I'm not really familiar with the specifics of that law but it would not be unusual to specify that they can't blackball another agent's listing.
