Even in the worst neighborhoods I would feel uncomfortable walking though but wouldn’t feel threatened for my life due to gang violence or insane amount of crime.

Not just because it's extremely difficult to obtain a permit in NYC but more so because I believe carrying a gun would make me come off as more threatening which in turn can cause others to be more aggressive as well.

Don't ask if it is legal no problem unless they start threatening or making other tenants highly uncomfortable in which case that is a different problem.

Buying cameras, hiding in the shadows in a ninja suit, playing keystone cop, threatening eviction... sounds time consuming, frustrating, and expensive and also a good way to create animosity with tenants.
