It was not a good year.As far as the initial question, I had looked into Australia a few years ago (my daughter was born there) and it seemed that Queensland offered pretty good deals as they suffered a bit of the housing bubble that the states did and Aussies bought into the North for investments and second vacation homes.

You have to ask yourself if it's worth it,financially.Probate is not cheap and your share of the proceeds will be sharply reduced with all the attorney and court fees.Plus,the original lawyer will want money for defending the estate from the lawsuit (whatever the reason for the suit).It could take a year or two to fight the sister and in the end,the lawyers will eat up the money from the estate over time.Unless the house is worth at least $200,000 or more as is without major repairs and upgrades needed,I would seriously question whether fighting the druggie Aunt is worth 2 years of litigation and court appearances.It is just my opinion as someone who has suffered through probate,don't take it for the gospel.

This has been especially frustrating as I live across the country.After 6 months of suffering, I finally got clarity on how meters should be assigned: Entire house has a shared gas meterUnit One (1 BR) and Unit Two (1 BR) each has its own electric meterUnit Three (2 BR) shares an electric meter with the basement, which only the tenants in Unit One & Two have access to for laundry (Unit Three has in-unit laundry); apparently this meter also powers the fan for the furnace and the hot water heaterI'm seeking advice on how to fairly charge Unit Three for electric usage.
