If you are going to update the backsplash do it right and demo the old one first.

I've helped demo/install flooring for an in-law suite.

This property will be getting fully gutted, it had a pipe burst on the 2nd floor and the seller has already demoed most of the property including the original hardwood floors.

Run the numbers (and comps) both ways - rehab (cost of same and market value once done) and demo and build new (same thing - cost to demo and build and market value once done) and see where you come out.

The video demos seem to look very interesting.

had no income because of spent 100k demoing the house's before we realized we were landlocked.. 2 feet on a driveway myself I am with others if it does not affect the property and you dont mind it.. so be it.. if it bugs you move on.  

Demo old kitchen, install new cabinets, appliances, floor tiling and backsplash )2) bathroom remodel (demo old bathroom install new tub, floor and wall tiling, vanity etc). 

Ironically, many of the past seasonal housing offerings have been demoed and replaced with the large weekly rentals.  

If it is a slab home then you have to demo the concrete to get the sewer line in there.
