Years ago I heard a lot more about 40-60% returns on Airbnb by just buying a nice place and putting it up for rent short term, now many vacation destinations that are STR friendly have seen a ton of people join the game, partially because this is often the only way to make a property cashflow right now from day one.

And maybe some government likes the taxes, but it is true that in many popular areas it is becoming more difficult because of zoning, that is why in Hawaii they have vacation destination zones, and in the county i live in Colorado, they want you to have an acre or more for an STR.

Louis at the same time, the low cost of living and manageable climate plus proximity to many US business destinations (4 hours by car to Chicago, Indy, Nashville, KC, Memphis, etc. or 2 hours by plane to Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, etc.) should keep a stable base population in the metro area.
