I believe the expectation for an average investor is that putting the effort and work into an STR should reward you with high cashflow + appreciation.I started with an LTR and the renters paid off my mortgage and appreciation eventually turned it into a giant piggy bank. 

If you don't treat this as a business every Tom, Dick and Harry will keep taking and taking and taking.

Like removing the giant clock thing on the wall- however with some high white chairs to make it look like a breakfast area it might not look like wonderland that much.

Same kid 5 years later owns a giant tech firm here in Austin and refers all his highly paid new hires to my broker; $1,000 lease into millions in home purchases.You just never know.....

I know some of the people building those giant buildings downtown, and while I am not happy with the style of the buildings the city allowed them to build (I am extremely conservative when it comes to architecture styles, and would prefer they were 100% faced in brick and not these weird mishmash things everyone builds now a days), or what I perceive as a lack of parking and over reliance on a luxury market, they are going to do quite well for themselves, so on that front it is hard to argue.
