Personally, I view postponing enjoyment in order to hopefully save enough to retire someday is a far greater gamble.  

Trying to add a permitted sink and toilet would postpone selling the house for at least 60 days and cost nearly what we'd net.Maybe next project...

Is there any way where you can postpone the auction date to have enough time to work on the property?

@Tiffanie Vendryes -  We have been buying foreclosures at the courthouse for years and I'd say well over 50% are cancelled or postponed.  

I am reading Dallas exemptions which stated:"Tax Deferral for Age 65 or Older or Disabled HomeownerIf you are a homeowner who qualifies for the Age 65 or Older or the Disability exemption, you may also defer or postpone paying any property taxes on your home for as long as you own and live in it.

This is first sales date that he received so his attorney thinks he could postpone it at least couple of times.  

I mean, you could list it and get an offer over the weekend and prepare the paperwork and get the auction postponed.  

I would be happy to explain privately though.If you don't know how to use this type of loan correctly, all it will do is postpone a future problem, that you have not planned a solution for.
