Some may be able to walk an easy path with tenants for a long time and eventually get blindsided by someone like this.

It may make sense to call a few local credit unions and ask what they expect and discuss your goal(s) with doing that so when you are ready financially and mentally to pull the trigger you aren't blind sided. 

It tends to freak some tenants out when the new landlord shows up unannounced (some tenants seemed fine but some seemed tense/borderline petrified) - I think some fear they're going to get booted or I'm showing up unannounced to blindside them and make changes.

I think now I have more empathy for landlords who could be blindsided by someone moving into a place and knowing they'll move out soon.
