It's just going to take practice and perseverance, as it can get quite frustrating for a novice like me when the program "misbehaves," and by that I mean my own human error causes problems! 

The risks to be incurred by you within and without the activity, the assets you own and how you own them, which state you reside in, which state the activities are conducted, estate planning considerstions, costs of entity establishment and administration.So often there is no quick and ready rule of thumb despite what many novices and folks promoting these entities might indicate.For example, I own numerous SFRs in various states but mostly California.

I'm only a novice but it would seem beneficial to me to invest in a developing market such as Brazil, Chile, certain parts of Mexico, etc.How does an average every day person go about doing this?

My wife has real estate experience in the Washington, DC/Maryland area but I am a novice and would like to think through a wide range of options.  

These are people who are novices telling veteran experts doing a ton of deals and working with people doing a ton of deals that we are wrong because they read some book or went to some seminar filled with some idiot promising 50% returns.Could you have the wrong agent?

Admittedly I don't know anything about chimneys, but it seems if it needed completely torn out, wouldn't it look at least a little decrepit to the novice eye?
