@Nick Scapellati  Check out your local Habitat for Humanity Restore as they often have items you can buy for a really good price. 

By now, I feel you don't just deserve to have your property restored to you. 

There is something here called the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  

Depending on what the smell actually is, I use kilz restore primer and then paint the place.

I haven't read through all of the comments so someone might have already mentioned this, but there is a rustoleum kit for $250 that restores existing countertops.

What they've done regarding restoring power/services, with the road to pine island and the Sannibel Causeway thus far is pretty remarkable.
