Then when it got too cold to stay in the tent I bought and old school bus, gutted it, put in a wood stove and we lived in that over the winter.

In the process they shut off the gas to the hot water heater so they got to go without hot water, the kitchen stove, and the fireplace until I was able to get someone over to turn it all back on for them.

Essentially it is set up as a separate apartment - fridge, stove, microwave, toilet, stand-up shower.We moved to the second floor apartment, and to avoid dealing with illegal apartment issues with the basement, we capped the gas line and removed the stove and rented the apartment out to a friend as a first floor/basement duplex on a single lease.
