I find on forum posts that when one is asked repeatedly to defend their overly-simplistic statements and they fail to do so and/or blame people for attacking the messenger it is generally because they realize they’re wrong.

Disagreeing is ok and constructive; personal attacks are not.Just to be clear, my purpose has never been to suggest that you should have invested in Mexico rather than Costa Rica.

It reveals nothing more about the person you are attacking while revealing a whole lot more about you.
