They are doing "commons" in many of the expensive areas of the country where groups can live but still have privacy, etc., as the problems associated with high living costs aren't just for seniors but for young people too. 

Plus the floor plan may not be what you want/need for the lot you are putting it on.Splitting a house is interesting, but then you have to think about utilities, privacy, etc.How much money do you have to spend?

But what we have found is that there is actually a market for people that are traveling with a bigger group but like the privacy of everyone having their own space. 

Tenant replaced all of my blinds with bamboo roll-up blinds that provide zero privacy.

With a detached garage you can enjoy privacy from the separation from the main house.

Like @Noah Gregory said about Denver, we see those setups all the time and search them out for our clients wanting to house hack with a little more privacy.

I am considering on building a shop and house all in one on my personal property (I would build a 8’ tall fence so we can have our privacy).
