All in all, do what's right for you and your wife, but choosing Oahu has put me out of my comfort zone in the best way and made me experience adventures, friendships, and culture I never would have on the mainland. 

Do not lose a friendship over this.

It's the same treatment I get from my mortgage lender, my insurance company, my cellphone provider, and any other professional business.Treat this like a friendship and you'll eventually find out your renters do not see the relationship the same way.

If you have a falling out will it ruin your friendship? 

That will give you some solid people to connect with and build friendships with especially in your area.  

Our backgrounds helped, but doing the work (seeing houses, analyzing deals, networking, networking, networking, creating friendships with like minded people, etc.) and gaining that momentum everyday lead us to where we are now.

Establish more of a friendship style of relationship.

One thing with street names-- the nicer/happier it sounds, the worse it is... where I used to live, the ghetto was called "Friendship Court" 

When you live together, friendships form and it's hard to keep it "purely business."
