Sure, if tens of thousands of them were built it would have an effect, but a few thousand new units in a county with over 10M people is a drop in the bucket.

Worst of all, the basement had no exterior door, which meant that approx. 30-40 tons of water-logged clay had to be removed by hand, one bucket at a time, through a window!

The whole house is original galvanized steel plumbing--it probably has 1-5 years left, and when it kicks the bucket, you'll be ripping out all that fresh drywall and the finishings in the basement.

I let them know that I appreciate them keeping up with the cleaning but asked them to start filling a bucket to do the cleaning and explained that water is expensive as well as a luxury here in Chicago (I know people in California who can't even water their gardens).
