In general, REITs behave and are valued like equities and have the same advantages and limitations ( you don't get tax advantages and amortization but they are passive).

When mgmt companies behave in this manner, I believe it's based on the premise that even though what they are doing is unfair, the people they are bullying don't have the resources to stand up for themselves.

It could be who or how the question was posted.As a general rule people are judged by how they behave and the company they keep.
