Leave instructions on how it is used (ie no dish soap) and a small box of dishwasher detergent or some dishwasher pods, so they can see what to use.

If they were having issues with the dishwasher not cleaning the dishes, it could be the detergent.

The next day we discovered they had used Arm & Hammer laundry detergent WITH BAKING SODA.

With the SRT we restock basic supplies between guests - toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo/body wash, laundry detergent.

I supply toilet paper, paper towels, liquid hand soap at all sinks, dishdetergent, dishwasher pods, one new dishwashing sponge, spray oil, salt & pepper (I buy the plastic disposable ones for picnics so they can't be refilled) and a few other spices, trash bags, some cleaning supplies such as Simple Green and microfiber cloths, coffee filters, plastic wrap, ziploc baggies, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets.Guests are asked to bring their own shampoo, conditioner, personal soap for showers, sugar, creamer and coffee. 

Good quality detergents are almost specifically designed for those sorts of stains.

Remember your costs will be more for an STR, you'll be paying for a lot of things you wouldn't with an LTR - higher STR insurance, all utilities including internet, supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher detergent etc, upkeep on furniture and linens if damaged, yard maintenance and grass cutting/snow removal, trash removal, etc.  

Providing a starter supply of items like laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and toiletries is common practice and works well for short stays.

Darker e-juices can stain carpet if spilled, but this is probably less of a risk than a kid spilling juice on the carpet and can usually be cleaned out with some dish detergent.
