Damp towels or clothing can also cause it if left sitting for awhile, although I wouldn't think that would happen in the kitchen (but you never know with some tenants).

Can't wash self, can't wash clothes, if there are children it's even worse. 

In San Diego $36k year rent, $25k in Fed income taxes, another $5k in state income tax...throw in food & clothing, health insurance & a car (can't get around without a car here) & raising a family would be a very modest, frugal affair on $100k.

Having 6-8 people that wash their clothes 2-4 times a month would provide an additional $50 or so.5.)

Upon inspection the tenant still had table, chairs, random junk, tons of clothes, and garbage strung out across the unit, not to mention a broken window and holes in walls where it appears a body was slammed against. 

This deal was a huge pain and included me living for months in a literal construction zone, covering and uncovering my "furniture" (my bed and clothes on top by bed) whenever I left or returned to the house every day as well as cooking and eating all my meals at my work.

The house was messy with mail & clothes all over the floor, etc.

For those coming back from snow activities, with wet clothes, skis, snowboards, etc. it's a great way to go through the garage into the house, and the cover keeps snowfall off the walkways.

By the way I disagree with the people who recommend that you only eat rice and beans, make your own cloths and shoes, sell your car and ride a bike 50 miles both ways to work each day to save on gas.
