I suspect that in this case working detectors would not have helped because the fire was discovered fairly early but it was a severe, near zero humidity day. 

We are in the process of designing a new apartment building in upper Midwest where we have snowy winters and hot humid summers. 

I needed to caulk, trim paint and the biggest thing was pressure washing the rear deck because the previous tenant had potted plants on it for 4 years... a bit of a pain because it's a very humid environment down here so wood rot is prevalent.     

The garage, and a room in the basement, was piled to the rafters with leftover building supplies, busted power tools, used tires, all kinds of stuff, frozen in the PA winters, broiling in the PA summers, always rusting from the humidity and damp.

The Honeywell 9000 has multiple levels of lockout, partial or full.It also has temperature and humidity alerts as well as loss of communication. 

People retire from the NE to Florida and then hate the hot/humid summers and go halfway back.   

Lots of breaks and short days in hot humid weather. 

I thought they don't use copper in Florida because of issue with not holding up to the humidity?

It is also desired to have ventilation to reduce (or increase) the humidity in the house.

Louis summer humidity make them expand and literally ruined them.
