You can donate to organizations that build community gardens or help non-profits write grants for projects.  

I agree with everyone who said that you should run things as a business, but even the biggest of businesses occasionally make charitable donations.  

I bet you can even get some of the larger investors to donate homes that they cant sell or don't want to bother trying to sell for tax breaks.

Lessons learned I'm sure for the next screening ( I understand tenants were inherited and due diligence is somewhat different )A note on the clean up, are you donating the food ( still store sealed, I would throw away anything that is open ) and clothes to an organization in need?

I try to donate clothes coats and shoes, sell decent furniture items so the buyer has to carry them away then bag up the rest and send it all to the dump.

Your best bet might be to try to arrange to donate the lot to Habitat and get a tax deduction.
