I have LLC's, S Corp, C Corp management company, set up for tax reasons, but have not placed any of my rentals into an LLC for liability purposes.A good lawyer will not only pierce the corporate veil, but if you are personally involved in any way managing the property, you will be personally sued for negligence with along your LLC.

You can still open a bank account from New Zealand it's just a bit involved.Also regarding LLC's make sure you incorporate in a state that makes what Americans call "piercing the veil", (looking through the LLC to the individual owners) difficult, does not have high sales and franchise taxes and has low annual operating costs to keep it legal.

Whichever way you go, insurance is the first firewall and you'll need plenty of liability coverage and an umbrella liability policy as well.On the LLC, many assert that it can easily pierced by a savvy lawyer, though I've not seen any good examples of this occurring.
