That article paints with a pretty broad brush.

Since he was kind of rude and I got bad vibes from him overall, I'm eager to brush the whole thing off, but I'm wondering if there is any validity to his statements.

But you brush that off and take it as a learning experience of what not to do moving forward.

Regardless of where you got your funding...the point is you got funded or if you were the one that lifted a paint brush....the point is you dealt and managed the contractors, you were involved in every aspect as far as I'm concerned. 

People steal the wands, brushes, vacuum houses and anything not chained down.

I just fell into an investment property and I haven't had a chance to really get myself together and brush up on investing ed 101.

Brush or woods yes, and I understand what you are getting at.  

At the risk of painting with a broad brush, inherited tenants almost never work out after the building changes hands.
