Rodrigues I was wanting to continue living in the property.

We live in the Atlanta suburbs so we've built up good equity and rental prices are high.

The first thing I'd recommend is focus on a market where you either 1) currently or have previously lived, 2) have family/friends that live there, or 3) travel to/vacation there frequently.

We needed a place to live and we decides to keep it when we moved.

Rent would be ~1,400 to 1,800 / month which is above market rate but housing is in very high demand and price is in line with what seniors who live on their own would be willing to pay based on my conversations with local Real Estate Agents. 

I live on the other side of the country - 3 time zones earlier than my STR, so when I have guests staying, I wake up about 6 AM my time to check my phone, to make sure I see any early morning messages or problems.

A couple of treatments worked for me.

As for San Antonio, I lived in Texas for a dozen years and spent a few days per month in San Antonio for work for a good chunk of that.

If you are living in a place that is satisfactory why not change the arrangement with the landlord?  

So if your living for free now it will be very unlikely you will find a house hack that can match your current monthly living expense.
