You can use "Realty" but the term "Realtor" is trademarked.

I completely understand for the .realtor domains, as they have trademarked the name.

Good will includes things like intellectual property, trademarks etc.The portion allocated to FFE is also taxable but it has also probably been treated with accelerated depreciation of some sort.

@Chad Heaton I'm no lawyer and every case is different but this is a ridiculous trademark claim, following with your example what if I owned birthday(dot)com.

Our clients pay a monthly license fee and have exclusivity to the use of the brand, domain, site, and all that comes with it within their territory.We don't use too many lawyers =) but we do have a federal trademark and will defend it on behalf of our licensees as needed.
