Be sympathetic, understand their concerns, and let them know that you'll support them if they want to get a healer type person in the house to cleanse it, etc. 

I might also look into finding someone to come through and do a ritual cleansing of the house.

Actually, ate with family in their home and heard the horror stories of what went on in this ethnic cleansing 8 years of war.

I think a cleansing of a house and exorcism is different. 

This cleansing is definitely necessary though.
