You can save serious finish out expense by building with a 100% hardiplank exterior, using vinyl plank flooring, and stock hardwood cabinets.

This will include new cabinets, countertops, sink, appliances and maybe even the floor.

I am torn on painting the cabinets white, replacing the cabinets with newer trendy white shaker cabinets or just keeping the originals and building my kitchen color scheme around whats there .

Based on already knowing cost for what needed to be replaced we could get an idea of cost.My local REI has a contractor member that has given out a cheat sheet of sorts that has material cost (updated as cost changes) and typical labor charges (also updated as needed) for several things like roof, flooring, appliances, cabinets and counters, windows, painting, etc. 

I'll be using laminate for the counters, then using unfurnished cabinets(I will do the staining on it).

Open the cabinet doors beneath all sinks to try and allow warmer air to circulate in.

update outdated sink and bath fixtures (no gold fixtures), update cabinet handles. 

Previous owner hammed the cabinets and they took away all appliances: fridge, range, dishwasher ... you name it. 

The home has been totally redone, carpet, cabinets, insulation, flooring you name it its been redone.
