From the research I've done (I wanted to do everything by the book), we found that there is no legislation to regulate Airbnb listings in Providence and the only proposed legislation was proposed last June (2018), which would make require you to have a certain amount of property insurance coverage ($300k) on your rental, register with the city, meet non-discriminatory and safety standards, make sure you collect and pay the hotel/transient tax, and bar anyone who uses affordable housing funds (FHA, VA loans) from short-term renting their home while they are not present.
