I had a septic system on a multi family rental in New York State.. it freezes during extreme temperatures and sometimes backs up.

We also have a very low cost of living (probably because the weather sucks and nobody wants to live here) but if you can tolerate 45 degree shifts in temperature in a 24 hour period you'll love it here!

I'm curious to know what's the right thing to do in this situation...I've explained to the Bottom tenant he has the luxury of controlling the temperature of the house.

With the utilities on, the building temperature stays relatively the same.

The weather gets fairly cold in the winter and when the temperature drops to 5 degrees and a furnace goes on the blink expect to pay 200% more than the average cost for a repair, or pay for water damage caused by frozen water pipes.

Needless to say I did not buy one as our temperature regularly gets down to -20.

Requirements, 10 x 20 bunker, "solid" door, water and humidity dry, temperature moderate or controlled.
