Why does turning the meter on cause water to run uncontrollably?

Increase in value over time, loan pay down by renter, depreciation can shelter some income.No margin call, no "Gambling" on picking one stock over the other--Roulette.Banks will lend to you to buy real estate--but not to buy stocks--(if stocks were superior--it would be the other way around). 

I suppose the thought might be that the program will help to upend that cycle and create wealth, but that seems a heck of a gamble.

Will your choice to hire that contractor standup under scrutiny, or are you just gambling that it'll never come to that. 

If someone chases individual companies, that is much more a gamble. 

With an average price of about $1.2M out here, that’s upwards of $30k that buyers are gambling.

I think some people can gamble and like to gamble....but that is not a good business model for me....has to make sense.

It could appreciate but I consider that gambling.

Also, it's hard to time the market... e.g. if you sell your house at the 2 year mark, you are going to rent & wait for the market to show a good deal, which is a gamble.

Given that rates are very low currently, is it worth it to gamble and hope that rates are still low when we reach 20% equity?
